HRT Zing Door Hanger
Level: Seasoned Beginner
Size: approximately 27” x 45” finished
Time: Approximately 3 hours for quilt top construction
Quilters have been using half-square triangles to create patterns for ages. What about rectangles? This pattern uses the Creative Grids Perfect Rectangle Ruler (measures 5” x 9 ½”) to create perfectly shaped half-rectangle triangles to add a little zing to a pattern. Have you ever wondered what you could make with fat quarters (FQ)* or a stack of 10” squares (aka Layer Cake)? The more fabrics you have to choose from, the better. This pattern uses at least 5 fat quarters (or one Layer Cake) along with one fat quarter of contrasting fabric to create a
door or wall hanging, or a table centerpiece.
Assumptions:
- Must have basic machine sewing knowledge
- Know how to prep, cut, and sub-cut fabric
- Know how to sew a ¼” seam
- Use both ¼” seams and scant ¼” seams throughout, as noted
- Press according to arrows
Learning Takeaways
- Thinking about color choices
- Reading a quilting pattern
- Reading a ruler
- Understanding the use and need for starch (e.g., Best Press, etc) and scant ¼” seams
