BIO: Kathy Seymour is a Certified Sallie Tomato Educator who has been sewing for more than 40 years and teaching for more than 20. She began sewing with her mother as a young child. Through the years she has made mohair teddy bears, home decor, quilts, clothing and lots of bags. Kathy loves teaching and helping others find joy in creating something special. She is excited to partner with Sallie Tomato because their patterns, videos and supplies are exceptional. Her other interests include needle felting, birding, skiing, inline skating and gardening.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

The Aurora bag is a stylish, roomy tote (15-1/4” wide, 15” high, and 5” deep) with metal hardware and faux leather contrasts that make it an eye-catching everyday hold all. The Aurora features a large interior slip pocket, a top zipper closure, an optional adjustable crossbody strap and optional bling like purse feet, tassel and metal bag tag. This style is perfect for all occasions and the pattern design makes it accessible for new bag makers using a domestic sewing machine. You can even skip the zipper and create an open tote if you want.

In this class you will learn how to use zipper-by-the-yard, rivets, purse feet and strap hardware. We will have samples of different types of faux leather, cork and webbing, and discuss how to adapt any pattern to use these materials for straps. If you’ve been wanting to add a professional touch to your bags, this class will show you how.

NOTES: Pattern purchase is required. Cutting and interfacing fabric is required before class. You will receive instructions upon registration. Hardware, zipper, webbing and faux leather is available from the instructor on the day of class. A maximum of 8 students will be allowed in this class.
