The simplicity of the Nyla Jacket design combined with the bright, bold fabric makes for a wonderful and wearable garment. It is the ideal jacket for those slightly cool autumn and spring days. The HUGE hood makes it very cozy and attractive and it has deep pockets. Easy to sew, wonderful to wear – what is not to like?! Make yours from two identical jelly rolls OR use a lightweight to medium weight fabric that you absolutely love! This is a multi-size pattern: all sizes from S to 3 XL are on the same pattern. It was created for a person approximately 5’6″ tall. If your height is above or below, you may adjust pattern length by a few inches to the bottom of the pattern.
*** PLEASE READ IMPORTANT ***
If you are using jelly roll strips to make your jacket, you must complete STEP 1 BEFORE class. Here are the instructions for STEP 1:
Step 1: With RIGHT SIDES together, sew all the strips together to form one “body” of fabric. Each jelly roll is composed of 42 strips. Repeat this step for the second jelly roll and attach the two pieces together forming one piece of fabric with 84 strips.

Do you have IQ Designer or My Design Center as a feature on your sewing machine? Would you love to get your feet wet and dip a toe into digitizing with it? If you are ready to jump into these features then please join me for a project based class using your scan n cut and your embroidery machine to make this fun easter table runner!
The goal of this 2 day work shop is to learn to create simple shapes, turn them into stitch files, use those to create cut files and then cut and embroider your very own designs. I want to help you to fully understand each part of the process so that you may apply it to other projects moving forward! We will focus on getting the top of the runner embroidered in class. You will hem or quilt it with your favorite method on your own outside of class.
You will receive a supply list when you sign up. Included in class will be a USB stick with files along with a hand out. NOTE: you must have both an embroidery machine with IQ Designer or My Design Center AND a Brother Scan N Cut in order to take this workshop.

Ever wonder how to use Creative Grids plastic templates? Come to class to learn how to sew the Scrap Crazy squares to make a cute wall hanging or table center. You should be able to create this wall hanging in class. Creative Grid templates for this class are available at Seacoast Sewing & Quilting. You will receive a 10% discount on all purchases of notions for this class.
Skills required: how to cut fabric with a rotary cutter, sew a 1/4” seam, and square up.
Tool Requirements
- Sewing machine in good working order, with a new needle (extra needles, if needed). Please remember the foot pedal and power cord!
- ¼” foot or tape to mark a ¼” guide line on the machine
- Rotary cutter, with a new blade (extra blades, if needed)
- Pins and needles, pin cushion
- Thread
- Scissors and/or snips
- Cutting ruler (12”)
- Squaring ruler
- Creative Grids 6” Scrap Crazy template set (has 4 pieces), including instructions
- Seam ripper
- Marking tools
- Fabric labeling tools (sticky notes, alpha-labeled binder clips, Alphabitties, etc)
- Note taking materials (eg., notebook, paper, pen/pencil)
Fabric Requirements:
- Six (6) Fat Eighths (vary fabric colors)*
Prep work before class:
Lightly starch each fat eighth with a dry iron — use Best Press or equivalent. The light starch will keep the angles from stretching when handling and sewing. The emphasis here is light starch since this shrinks fabric and there should not be too much shrinkage.
Fabric needed to finish:
- Binding fabric ¼ yd
- Backing fabric ⅔ yd
- Batting
* Fat Eighths are 9” x 21” cuts of fabric
