Razzle Dazzle Wreath Paper Pieced Quilt
Saturday, May 12 & 19, 1:00pm – 3:30pm
Cost: $50.00 (includes pattern)
Instructor: Jaci Lawson

This paper pieced pattern is made up of two basic blocks that are twisted and turned to make this beautiful wreath quilt. Made with your favorite Christmas fabrics, the finished quilt can be used as a table topper or as a spectacular sofa blanket. During the class, we will cover the basics of paper-piecing but some background in foundation piecing is helpful. Mary Furber, a local quilt teacher, has provided us with a paper piecing tutorial so please review the paper-piecing process if necessary before the class. During the first session, we will create the basic block using test fabrics. During the second session, we will create the basic border block and work with the wreath blocks you have created at home to discuss preparing the quilt center for borders. You will need a 1/4 inch ruler, preferably 6 inch long as well as other supplies as outlined in the course guide including foundation paper. Paper piecing is a great technique for making quilt tops with crisp lines and matching points, and this pattern is a lovely, family heirloom piece you will enjoy for years to come.

Zen-Linking Sunflower Art Quilt
Saturday, June 16 & 23, 1:00pm – 3:30pm
Cost: $50.00 (includes pattern)
Instructor:Jaci Lawson

Zen quilting is one simple line followed by another and if you have done some free motion meandering, you already know all you need to successfully zen quilt. The secret to zen quilting is how relaxing it is! You just relax and move your fabric in one easy line at a time. You choose your first zen pattern – for example checks –do a small test run and then start filling in the open section. Because each section is small, you can fill each one easily with these simple fill patterns. You can also fill sections with your machine’s decorative stitches – even easier! When you are done with that section, congratulations! You have done something many quilters have never done – quilted small, quilted without a stenciled pattern, and quilted in color on a solid background! Once all sections inside the outlining have been filled with zen quilting, you will outline the background with a similar technique and continue filling small sections. Because the background fabric and thread are both white, the background quilting creates a lovely texture for your art quilt. To finish your quilt, you will use a fabric pen in a color that matches your thread and color in the face and the outlines. This not only provides more color for your quilt, it also allows you to quilt from one section to the other “through the outline” without the thread showing because once you color over it, no one will ever see it. This project is a wonderful introduction to quilting small and enjoying it!
